Ok Ok.. I’m blogging! I’m still going to send you long text messages.

Ok here I am. Hi! 😉

***Disclaimer:  This is my first real blog post soooo…. it’s going to be a bit of a verbal vomit. Sorry!!…and enjoy

Hello all!!!!… I’m Julie (Smith) and as much as I never have a problem starting a conversation, I find starting a blog to be really awkward (because you didn’t ask me anything, I’m just telling you stuff…) So I’m just going to GO and I promise that future post topics will become more and more narrowed (well, I mean I’ll try.)

Aaanyway, why am I blogging?

Well it’s been a long time coming. I’ve thought about it, planned for quite a while to get started on it, and promised friends that I would create it, and kept pushing it back.
Actually, my recent move from Louisville, KY to Los Angeles, CA could be described exactly the same way. The move is what has now motivated me to go ahead and create this thing because funny things happen to me all the time, and maybe even when they’re not that funny, I find humor in them anyway.  Since I arrived in Los Angeles just over one month ago, I seem to be getting hit right and left with one funny , peculiar, cool and interesting (and even a couple of annoying things believe it or not) having to do with this transition.

I want to document this because I think that the things that I run into, notice, scratch my head about, get annoyed by, am impressed and unimpressed with, etc will be relatable to some, interesting and eye-opening to others, and hopefully entertaining, moving or beneficial in some way to all.  It will really depend on my mood when I take to the keyboard.
Blogs are all over the internet of course, ranging from very broad topics to very specific topics and I’ll be honest, I kept thinking “Who’s going to care? Who’s going to read this?” and to be really honest, I’m still wondering that.  However, I am smart enough to consider the advice of others who seem to see things that I may not, … and so here we go!
By the way, I’ll tell you all now, EXPECT a series of awesome blog posts around May 2012 .. this is Kentucky Derby Time! For those of you who think this is just a horse race……… oohh ho ho hooo no no noo.  Let me shoowww you about Derby Time in the city! (That’s Louisville, KY)

Anyway, I’ll start this first installment with a little about me and why I came to LA to begin with.

What  I do: Television/talk show hosting, Public Speaking, Event hosting/emceeing, Print, Runway and Commercial Modeling, Acting

What I’ve done:  ABC’s The Bachelor (the one with Bob Guiney, Season 4.  No I didn’t get a rose.  I was entirely too sober and aloof for that.  Ha!  Bob’s very cool though!)

SoapNet’s “Southern Belles: Louisville” 2009 http://sn.soapnet.go.com/shows/southern-belles-louisville  (It’s on Hulu.com   If you watch, remember that it’s SCRIPTED reality.  Thank you.)   🙂

A few people asked me when I announced that I was leaving Louisville, KY for Los Angeles, “Why would you leave now when you’ve got a cushy life here?  You’ve made your way onto the local television scene as a host, you have such a solid network of family and friends.  You’ve pretty much got it made here.”  My response was that all of those things are true, and it’s going to be very difficult to uproot from that and start from scratch in a new city but… I have to.  I have to “go and grow”  I love KY and am forever grateful for the family and friends that I have there who I haven’t really left at all.   The professional experience I’ve gained in the last couple of years has been priceless… but it’s time to “go and grow.”  (I know I said it twice.)

As a little girl when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up,  I said  a veterinarian AND a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader…. both.  (Literally, I remember at five years old, telling that to the doctor who was putting a cast on my leg that I broke while playing Wonder Woman on the playground.)  I did not say television personality, talk show host, or event/red carpet host and I sure didn’t say “reality tv person.”  I thought you had to be born “where they make movies” to do these things.  I did what I was supposed to do, made good grades, played sports, went to college on an academic scholarship, etc but somewhere along the line, after I’d been in the workforce for a while (pharmaceutical and other types of sales), I realized that something was missing.  I knew I hadn’t tapped into my full potential which made me very uncomfortable and restless, yet I didn’t know specifically what that potential was!  I was “working to live” but not “living and loving” my work.  Then I stumbled (and I mean literally stumbled) into reality tv twice, and that lead to hosting a live television talk show on WBKI, the CW affiliate in Louisville.   It was then I realized that we all possess the God-given talent and intellect to do whatever we want to do,  even if you NEVER imagined yourself there.   It turned out that I did not in fact have to come from where the movies are made (but it does help to go there, Lol.)  As Outkast says, “It aint where ya from, it’s where ya at.” (I love them.)  I had to think about where I needed to place myself, physically, mentally and emotionally in order to reach my full potential.  I have been on such a wild, amazing and unexpected ride into the television hosting arena the last few years (which is what now brings me to LA of course) and thought “THIS is what I should’ve been doing all along!” … and so I am going for it.  My mission is to one day introduce The Julie Smith Show!  …or would I need a stage name? What do you think?  Either way…. stay tuned!

I already have all kinds of things I want to tell you all about so more posts will be coming quickly.   I’ll soon include photos and videos as well so I’d love your feedback AND questions for sure!

Many many thanks you guys!  Muah!

***I dedicate this first blog entry to my buddy Andre Wilson of Style Icon Image Development (“like” them on Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.431058213558.216367.647038558&type=1#!/pages/Style-Icon-Image-Development/248670965464) who has been on my case for over a year to “please start a blog because your text messages are so  *&!%  long!”   🙂
